The kitchen is done! (well mostly :p)

The kitchen cabinets are all done, the appliances (apart from cooktop and motor for the rangehood) have been installed and it really looks like a kitchen now!

We're still waiting for the ceiling to be re-plastered and the new cornices to be put up and the wall tiles in the laundry which should all happen tomorrow.

Then we have the granite benchtop which will be installed in a week and a bit and once the benchtop's installed the glass splashback will be measured up and made which will take another week or so...so it'll be a little while until the kitchen is really finished. But for now I'm pretty happy with the cupboards, the dishwasher in the kitchen (woot!) and my shiny new oven which I used for the first time today! I don't think it really counts as 'cooking' but these ham and cheese toasted turkish bread sandwiches were yum!

I love that I have a light in the oven and an oven door I can see through! That's a first! :D

and the installing continues...

Kitchen is still being installed and it's progressing pretty well (for the most part). I've had a few 'aargh!' moments like when the laundry benchtop turned out to be too short and they had to reorder it, the overhead cupboard bifold door hinges were wrong (apparently the first ones ordered were so strong it could just about lift you off the ground!) and they had to order different ones and the pullout wire basket things for our little skinny cupboards were the wrong ones as well...and we are still waiting for the new ones to come in. But all in all it is definitely starting to look more like a kitchen and all those little problems are being sorted out so I'm pretty happy. :D

Please excuse the massively crooked photo but I was just about to take it when Luka trotted in so I tilted to get him in shot. :)

Tomorrow the laundry sink will be installed in the benchtop and plumbed in and hopefully the wall tiles in the laundry will be done so the laundry will start looking pretty much finished after tomorrow!

New kitchen is here!

Okay so these in progress shots look pretty terrible but I am so excited that my new kitchen cabinets are here! Currently being installed so still a lot of work to do but hey - they're here! *happy dance* :D

New floor!

I have a pretty new floor!

I'm very happy with how they've turned out. It's nice to have some part of the renovation finished at least..although in terms of tiling I still need the wall tiles in the laundry to be done but the floor tiling is complete! The kitchen cabinet installing starts tomorrow so I will take some progress photos as soon as my pretty new cupboards are here! :D

Kitchen is progressing well....slow and steady really but everything that needs to be done is getting done.

Not sure it's an improvement currently! But I'm sure it'll look much better once it's painted and has the cornices put up.

We have the tiler here today and he's going to tile the laundry floor today and then tile the kitchen floor tomorrow so yay! Tiles! :) I'll post up floor photos tomorrow.

All gone...

So the cupboards are all gone and the kitchen is empty (apart from the stove which still needs to be disconnected)...

I seriously have no idea what possessed the original owners of this house to paint the interiors of the cupboards pink....I mean really!

I thought this next photo was kinda cute....nearly like Dash was thinking...hey...didn't there used to be cupboards here?? :)

Since these photos were taken the electrician has come and gone so we have holes in the walls with cables sticking out where the new power points will be and the plumber is currently here knocking yet more holes in the walls to put the new pipes in and so on...All in all it's looking pretty ugly in there (I'll take more status photos at the end of today) and I can't wait for how pretty and new it's all going to look once the new kitchen arrives next week. :D

Out with the old...

Wow...it's been a long time since I've blogged! And I'm only really blogging now under duress because Clara wants me to. :p

I've been planning a kitchen (and laundry, but that's not as exciting) renovation for quite a while now and it's finally all happening!

I took some photos last night of the old kitchen which I am not going to miss in the slightest!

Here it is!

Note the complete lack of drawers (yes that's right that is a tallboy in the corner because we really needed some drawers in there!) Not to mention the insanely high cupboards (so useful!) and that lovely orange laminate benchtop over a corner cupboard that you practically had to crawl inside to get anything out of it! Needless to say I was rapt to see it being taken apart this morning...

I'm really not going to miss those awesome floral shelves and that fan in a cupboard that was what passed for a rangehood!

I'll take some more photos once the whole kitchen is gone which should be done by this afternoon. Then we have someone coming to put in a false ceiling because we have these really hideous polystyrene ceiling tiles in the kitchen, to match the super hideous everything else in there! So stay tuned for more updates as Project-Get-Rid-of-Super-Ugly-Kitchen progresses! :)
